Growing up, we siblings will never forget the customary Diwali rounds to the homes of all our extended family. We would be dressed to the nines in Indian finery, and nervously making shy guesses about who is who when quizzed by half-familiar adults of the family. The one thing we would actually look forward to were the yummy snacks; especially the unique dry fruit and nut recipes waiting to be devoured by us. Hey, who can after all make a pass on perfectly roasted badam laced in the finest honey and jaggery? But our parents were of a different opinion, we were often met with a dont embarrass us" look that only we knew existed- a memory that sends the whole family into a fit of laughter even to this day!
